Bubble’s AI Agent Can Build the Mobile App. Your Workflow Is Still the Product.
Building a native mobile app just became less technical.
On August 4, Bubble expanded its AI Agent so it can build and edit native mobile apps across the interface, workflows, and data. It can also create API connections, write backend workflows, install plugins, work with reusable components, and resolve issues flagged inside the editor.
That is real progress for a nontechnical founder.
It is also easy to draw the wrong conclusion.
The opportunity is not to generate a bigger app. It is to turn one valuable workflow you understand into a mobile product people will use.
The build barrier moved again
Until this release, Bubble’s mobile agent was limited mostly to interface work and dynamic expressions. Bubble says the agent can now work across the full native mobile app, while sharing the same backend, database, and workflows as the web version.
That changes the economics of an early experiment.
A domain expert can describe a feature, watch it appear in the visual editor, adjust it, and keep building without first hiring separate web, mobile, backend, and integration specialists. The same founder can connect an outside service through an API and ask the agent to create the workflow that uses it.
The agent is still in beta. Bubble also makes the work visible and editable rather than hiding the generated result behind a chat response. Both details matter. Faster building is useful. Reviewable building is safer.
But “I can build a mobile app” is not yet a product decision.
The right question is: which repeated decision or task becomes meaningfully better when it is available on a phone?
Mobile should change the workflow, not just the screen size
Many founders start by copying a web dashboard into a smaller frame. That usually produces a mobile version, not a mobile product.
A strong mobile wedge uses something the phone changes:
- the user is standing where the work happens;
- the camera can capture evidence or context;
- location affects the next step;
- a notification can trigger timely action;
- a short task can be completed between meetings;
- the product can guide a field worker, caregiver, salesperson, inspector, or customer in the moment.
Imagine you spent years managing commercial property inspections. A generic idea would be “an AI property management app.” A sharper product would guide one inspection, capture photos and notes, flag missing evidence, draft the report, and route exceptions for review before the inspector leaves the site.
That workflow is valuable because of what you know:
- which observations matter;
- which photos are required;
- which conditions create risk;
- which language belongs in the report;
- which exception needs a human decision.
The agent can help create screens, data types, API connections, and workflows. It cannot discover those operating rules for you.
That is where domain expertise becomes product architecture.
Build the smallest complete loop
Do not ask an AI builder to create your entire vision in one prompt. Start with one complete loop from trigger to outcome.
For the inspection example, the first loop might be:
- An inspector opens an assigned property.
- The app presents the required checklist.
- The inspector captures evidence and adds notes.
- AI drafts a structured summary from the approved inputs.
- The app identifies missing fields or uncertain findings.
- A human reviews the draft and submits the final report.
That is enough to test the product’s core value.
It also gives you a better way to prompt the builder. Instead of asking for “an inspection app,” you can define the users, records, allowed actions, exception states, and finished outcome for one workflow.
Then test it with real scenarios:
- a normal inspection;
- incomplete evidence;
- poor connectivity;
- an interrupted session;
- a duplicate submission;
- an unusual condition that should stop automation;
- a case that must be escalated.
Apple’s App Review Guidelines require submitted apps to be complete, with working links and accurate metadata. Android’s core quality guidance similarly emphasizes stability, correct navigation, state preservation, performance, privacy, and testing across devices. AI-generated speed does not remove those responsibilities.
The first milestone is not “the agent finished building.” It is “a real user completed the loop reliably.”
Treat the app stores as a product-quality gate
Bubble says builders can publish to the App Store and Google Play from the editor, using their Apple Developer or Google Play Console accounts.
That shortens the path to distribution. It does not guarantee approval, retention, or trust.
Before submission, verify the parts that customers will judge immediately:
- Permissions: Ask only for access the workflow truly needs.
- Privacy: Confirm who can see each record and what leaves the device.
- Recovery: Preserve progress when the app is interrupted.
- Errors: Explain what happened and what the user should do next.
- Performance: Test on real devices, not just the editor preview.
- Support: Give users a clear route when the workflow cannot finish.
This is also where a narrow product wins. A focused app has fewer permissions, fewer edge cases, a simpler first-use experience, and a clearer reason to return.
You can expand after the loop works.
Your advantage is the operating knowledge
The new generation of AI builders keeps moving technical work into a conversation and a visual editor. That is good news for experienced professionals who have spent years learning a market but never thought of themselves as software founders.
You do not need to win by writing more code.
You need to choose a painful workflow, define the rules, build the smallest complete loop, and test it with the people who already live with the problem. The builder accelerates execution. Your experience supplies the judgment.
That combination can become a real product.
